New Vistadome Service ‘Him-Darshan’ starts on Kalka-Shimla route

Indian Railways unveiled Him Darshan Express, a special train comprising all-new Vistadome coaches which runs between Kalka railway station to Shimla. Started on December 25, 2019, the new train will commute between the Kalka and Shimla station for the next one year.

Him Darshan Express will have seven coaches including one first-class sitting cum luggage room coach (FCZLR) and six first class AC Vistadom coaches. As the Vistadom coaches have swanky glass roof and large windows on the side, travellers can enjoy beautiful scenic view of the Himalayas. Modified in carriage and wagon depot at Kalka, the new Him Darshan Express will feature panelled air conditioning system, modern windows and LED bulbs.

Each Vistadome coach will have a seating capacity of 15 persons, including five window seats on both sides. The first-class coach can accommodate 14 passengers.

Him Darshan Express will follow the concept of individual seat charter services via Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and various other online modes. This will be the first train with Vistadome that will run on a regular basis.

The all new Him Darshan Express will complete the travel between Kalka railway station and Shimla in 5 hours 25 minutes. It will start its journey from the Kalka station at 7 am and will reach Shimla at 12.55 pm. While returning, the train will leave Shimla at 3.50 pm and reach Kalka at 9.15 pm.

The fare for Him Darshan Express will be ₹630. On the first day, the Him Darshan Express train was fully occupied. In total, 90 passengers boarded the train from Kalka railway station.
