The Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has earned Rs 5,903 crore in the first three quarters of the financial year with a growth of 9.5% over previous year, said Chetan Kumar Srivastava, divisional railway manager.
The growth in freight loading of 9.35% was the best ever, with 48.63 million tonnes being loaded. Passenger traffic grew by 1.32%. Srivastava announced this while unfurling the national flag on the 71st Republic Day celebrations in the city on Sunday.
He said that the division has played a vital role in national integration and has adopted the ‘path of innovative progression’ that made it a torchbearer for many.
Srivastava added that despite challenges thrown by difficult circumstances, the division is excelling in surpassing targets. The divisional railway manager further informed that the Visakhapatnam railway station bagged national tourism award 2017-18 for ‘best tourist-friendly railway station’ in India in 2019.
