Minister of state for railways Suresh Angadi has asked the South Western Railways (SWR) to start Hubballi-Vijayapura Intercity Express from February 15. Speaking at the inauguration of the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Desai Cross here on Tuesday, Angadi said that the proposed train will connect Hubballi and Vijayapura in less time compared to existing passenger trains. Angadi said line doubling is the first priority of the Railways.
“As part of this vision, line doubling between Bengaluru and Pune has been expedited and all work incuding electrification in Karnataka will be completed by 2022,” he said. Comparing the growth of railway network in India with that of Korea, which also got independence in 1947, Angadi said that trains in Korea are running at a speed of 400 KMPH whereas in India we are still struggling to enhance the speed to 100 KMPH. “With line doubling, we aim to take passengers from Bengaluru to Hubballi only in four hours,” he added. Ajay Kumar Singh, general manager, SWR, said that the ROB is reconstructed as part of the ongoing Hospet-Tinaighat railway doubling project. The new bridge, which is built at the cost of Rs 14.6 crore, accommodates double line as well as extension of Hubballi station yard.
