Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) chairman Sanjay Sethi IAS has said that the under-construction loading yard at JNPT for Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) will be open for business by June 2021. He was discussing the rail projects going on in JNPT with Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav, Central Railway General Manger Sunil Mittal and DFCCI MD Anurag Sachan on February 10 at the port.
As on date, JNPT serves more than 50 different ICD locations all over the country and additionally, there are rail movements to 3 CFSs which have rail connectivity. Currently, the JNPT-DFCC Loading yard is under construction. DFC will be a game-changer by providing freight only corridor, making it an economical, faster & more reliable option to move goods between JNPT & the Northern hinterland. Upgrading of transportation technology, increase in productivity and reduction in unit transportation cost are also the focus areas of the DFC project.
To fast-track the ongoing railway projects at the Navi Mumbai seaport, the meeting agreed to form a committee of officials from Central Railway, DFCCIL, CONCOR & JNPT.
