The 66th Railway Week was celebrated at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, in Dr. Ambedkar Arangam, today (23.12.2021). Shri Vashishta Johri, former General Manager, Southern Railway and CEO of Centre for Railway Research, IIT, Chennai, participated as the Chief Guest and gave away Medals and Award Certificates to 298 staff and officers of ICF who had rendered meritorious service during 2020-21. 38 winners of various cultural competitions were also recognised with certificates and awards.
During his welcome address, Sri A.K. Agarwal, GM, ICF, mentioned that during 2020-21 production year, despite the pandemic challenges, ICF was able to turn out about 2000 coaches last year. The product mix included export coaches to Sri Lanka, specially designed coaches for Nilgiri Mountain Railways, new Vistadome Coaches in LHB platform for tourists, air-conditioned coaches for Mumbai Suburban Railways, etc. He further added that ICF has bagged export order for supply of air-conditioned DEMU coaches to Sri Lanka Railways worth of Rs.106 crores. He said that it is a matter of pride that ICF has become the first railway production to receive the ISO Certification for welding of railway vehicles and components from M/s. Intertek Italia Spa, Italy. He also expressed the hope that ICF would be able to turn out 4 to 5 rakes of Vande Bharat Express starting from September 2022. He also said new prototype of Vande Bharat Express will be turned out by the beginning of next production year 2022-23.
During his address, Sri Vashishta Johri lauded ICF’s technical capability to turn out any type of railway passenger coach and for improving production of coaches year over year and touching the highest production 4000 coaches in an year.
Earlier, Smt Bhooma Veeravalli, PCPO, ICF, welcomed the gathering and Shri P.R. Viswanathan, DyCPO, rendered the vote of thanks. Since there was a restriction on the number of attendees due to Covid SOP, the program was live telecast over the internet to enable the family members and friends of the awardees and others to view the program.
