Railways completes Vikarabad-Parli Vaijnath electrification project

The South Central Railway (SCR) completed the Vikarabad-Parli Vaijnath electrification project. The final 63.75km stretch of the project between Latur road and Parli Vaijnath in Marathwada was commissioned on Sunday, 29 January 2023, marking the completion of the project.

With this, the entire 268km section from Vikarabad to Parli Vaijnath, covering around 116km in Maharashtra, 90km in Telangana and 62km in Karnataka, has been electrified.

Ch Rakesh, the chief public relation officer of SCR, said the trains in the entire Vikarabad-Parli Vaijnath section can now be operated with electric traction on end to end basis. “This is one of the important sections handling trains between the Southern part of India towards Aurangabad, Shirdi and Pune, among others,” he said.

SCR authorities said electrification of railway lines will pave the way for environment-friendly means of transportation by replacing diesel traction with electric traction. “It also helps in the seamless movement of freight and passenger traffic. The fuel expenditure will be drastically reduced by reducing diesel consumption,” authorities said.
