The production units of Indian Railways are on a growth trajectory. They are on their way to achieve record production by the end of the current financial year.
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Banaras Locomotive Works and Patiala Locomotive Works have, collectively, produced 785 electric locomotives in FY 2022-23 till January 31st.
To ensure convenient and faster mobility The coach production units have ramped up LHB coach production by manufacturing 4,175 LHB coaches in FY 2022–2023, till 31st January. Besides coach production, the Indian Railways placed an order for 84,000 wagons to boost its freight transportation share to 45 per cent by 2030 from the current 27 per cent.
Union Minister of State for Railways Darshana Jardosh recently said that the railways are expected to load over 1,500 million tonnes of goods this year.
On the issue of electrification of freight trains, Jardosh had said that 85 per cent was complete and 100 per cent electrification will be achieved by the end of the current financial year.
