After the launch of Vande Bharat express, Bhopal railway division is now focussing on modernisation of stations equipped with world class facilities.
In all 17 stations in the Bhopal railway division have been selected under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, which will be renovated and developed into modern stations. The scheme is based on master planning for long term implementation as per the needs of the station.
Bhopal DRM Saurabh Bandopadhya told that in the first phase, 17 stations of Bhopal railway division have been selected under Amrit Bharat scheme. These are Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Ganjbasoda, Vidisha, Ashok Nagar, Ruthiyayi, Biyavra-Rajgarh, Sanchi, Shajapur, Khirkiya, Banapura, Itarsi, Guna, Hoshangabad, Harda, Shivpuri, Bina and Bhopal. In all, 80 stations across MP have been selected under the scheme.
The Amrit Bharat scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach.
“It involves preparation of master plan and their implementation in phases to improve amenities at stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping and others keeping in view the necessity at each station, said Bandopadhya.
The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multi-modal integration, amenities for divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks, ‘roof plazas’ as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centres at the station in long term, he said.
The progress of the station development works has been reviewed by the railway board and it has been decided that phase-1 of the stations identified under the Amrit Bharat station scheme should be completed by the end of financial year 2023-24. Ministry of Railways, as part of its station redevelopment drive, has formulated the Amrit Bharat station scheme to modernize over 1,000 small stations across the country.
Free Wi-Fi, space for 5G mobile towers. smooth access by widening of roads, removal of unwanted structures, properly designed signages, dedicated pedestrian pathways, well-planned parking areas, improved lighting and high-level platforms (760-840 mm) at all stations with a length of 600 metres, special amenities for disabled are the other important works to be done at the selected stations.
