New revenue record for South Central Railway in Aurangabad

The South Central Railway (SCR) has electrified 1,017 km of rail route during the financial year 2022-23.

Of the total work, Nanded division, which caters to parts of Marathwada, has witnessed electrification on a 441km route, accounting for 43% of the share, the railway authorities said. It includes electrification of a 61.7km rail route from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Rotegaon and another stretch of 55.4 km between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dinagaon, among other works.

Listing out different achievements of the zone during the last fiscal, SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain said that the zone has achieved its best-ever earnings of Rs18,973.14crore in 2022-23.14 as compared to its best-ever earning of Rs 15,708.88cr in 2018-19.

“The SCR has continued to deliver exceptional performance in diverse segments by registering best-ever performance since its inception. Importantly, not only did the zone achieve record infrastructure growth but proactive initiatives have also contributed to SCR earning best-ever revenue on both passenger as well as freight segments,” he said.

The SCR achieved its best-ever originating passenger revenue of Rs5,140.70 crore in 2022-23 against previous best of Rs 4089.78 crore in 2018-19. In terms of passengers, 25.6 crore passengers travelled from SCR in 2022-23 as compared to 12.7 crore in 2021-22. A record 1,743.42 route km of rail track on the SCR were upgraded to handle trains up to a maximum speed of 130 kmph, the highest achieved by any zone in the last financial year, the authorities said.
